About

Leica used to offer day courses to photographers who had purchased new Leica equipment. A number of attendees decided to establish a group of like-minded photographers. At the inaugural meeting in Luton on the 27th March 1976, it was resolved that the title of the body would be 'The Leica Fellowship'.

With the use of the registered name "Leica," approval was sought and given in the form of a letter from Dennis Knowles, the English director of Leica UK at that time.

The Leica Fellowship has developed since those early days and now has many more members, some of whom meet up formally, twice a year. The Annual General meeting is held in the Spring. For those members who are unable to attend, this website will become their meeting place. Our ambition is that members will check in to the website regularly to read the latest news items.

The illustrated quarterly newsletter is a vital benefit for those members who are less comfortable with computers. It will continue to provide news and articles from members on photography, travel and other topics loosely linked to the world of Leica. Pictures will be a regular feature, hopefully inspiring members. Uniquely, the Newsletter will remain a permanent part of Leica Fellowship members' library.

Members can also arrange informal meetings, between themselves, at any time, and frequently do so. Many communicate regularly by telephone or modern media; exchanging news and seeking help or giving advice. This is probably the best example of Leica fellowship.

A few meet with Leica in London Mayfair to be briefed on the current range of products and see demonstrations of product support or servicing. These examples illustrate the diversity of activities of the Leica Fellowship which depends entirely on members' input which benefits everyone.
