‘People I Have Shot’ - James Jarché - a video - review by David Askham (2024)
01st November 2024 - 5 comments
James Jarché, a famous press photographer in his day, is not a name likely to be known by younger members of the Leica Fellowship. But for those who grew up in the 1940s, they might just remember Jarché’s work in Picture Post and other contemporary publications, fore-runners of British sunday newspapers’ colour magazines. Such weekly papers were extremely popular in the 1940s and 1950s, but relied on a regular supply of the very best of illustrative or journalistic photography. James Jarché was one of the main contributors to Picture Post and Weekly Illustrated, long before television became the medium of choice for news, as Britain became more affluent. That is the background to a fascinating documentary, with considerable photographic content and a reminder of British social history. Read more here…

First class photographs by Robert Frank who used a screw thread Leica and standard lens can be seen at an exhibition on The Valleys at the National Museum of Wales.

This shows that this equipment, that can be 70 to 80 years old can still perform so well and you'll get to experience Leica quality in the tradition of film photographs.
