Cled Lewis' Family Bible

05th April 2024
Cled Lewis has completed an interesting experiment, He set up this atmospheric still life and photographed it with his iPhone. He then rearranged the still life and took it with his M11, The portrait photo is the iPhone photograph, the landscape picture is the M11 photograph.

Here is what Cled said about the two photographs:

The iPhone picture was a 'snap' but the M11 took a bit to set up but under identical conditions.

The iPhone pic details are- rear camera 12 MP 26mm lens @f 1.8 the file size is 1.iPhoneX

The M11 pic details are -36MP 35mm Summilux ASPH lens @ f11 an 0.5 sec. exposer file size is 56MB.

You can see why the smart phone generation don’t feel the need for a camera although if printing the image is required then there is no competition.

The chapter that is open in the 1865 Welsh Bible is " The Song Of Solomon".
It was well used by the Lewis side of the family in the 1800’s and the bible has been sewn together to repair it and the pages are covered in candle wax. The family were farmers in mid-Wales.

Webmaster's Thoughts:

There is less flare from the candle light and more detail in the shadows in the M11 photograph. In terms of capturing the mood it is down to what the photographer imagined and then took.

Photo comment By David Askham: It is difficult to compare the two pictures when both are not portrayed at the same angle. Also the time interval between the two shots has resulted in two different angles of lighting as the the candle burned, thus lowering the light source. Tricky! Full marks for attempting a comparative scenario using two so different cameras. Both pictures succeed.
Photo comment By Alan Humphries: Well done Cled. I like the both images,. The iPhone version is good. but for me the mood and warmth of the M11 images the one. I would like to see printed versions of both.
