Pam Lewis' Special Christmas Present From Cled

06th March 2026
Some time ago Cled asked me to choose about twenty of my favourite pictures and look at the Exif data of each one. I found that most were in the range of 40mm - 100 mm. Nothing more was said.

One day after Christmas, I was told that a parcel would be arriving that afternoon. The parcel duly arrived soon after lunch and he handed it to me. I proceeded to open it as instructed.

The parcel was quite large and I had no idea of its content. What a surprise on opening it I found a Leica camera box. After removing all the packaging I found a smaller box which contained a Leica Q3 43 which Cled had bought second hand.

I had not used a Leica since giving up the R9/DMR a few years ago because of the weight and have been using the Panasonic Lumix MFT with Leica lenses very happily and the results have been great.
The Leica Q is actually lighter than the Panasonic G9 Mod 2 camera and 12-60 mm Leica lens.

The first time I tried to use it I was a little unsure because the lens did not zoom and I could not get used to the Macro system either.

Despair started to set in “How could I tell him that I could not use it?”. However, a couple of days later the weather changed and we went to our local National Trust Garden with the Q3 43 and Cled’s M11.

The following morning we took both cameras to our local church to try some indoor photography. I really enjoyed using the new camera but I think it will still take a bit of time to get completely familiar with it.

Needless to say, it did not take long to get used to it so “Who said that it was to be shared”

The Q3 43 will not replace the Panasonic because I use the telephoto lenses but it will be used in conjunction with it.
