David Askham - Helping Nature - the Rewards
23rd August 2024 - 4 comments
Helping the natural world has seldom been more necessary than in current times. Global warming has had a catastrophic impact on some countries. Wide-scale flooding is but one aspect. Centuries-old migration routes have been disturbed with huge cosequences among the insect world and birds.

There is national concern over the sudden decline in the numbers of winged pollinators in the UK. Butterflies, bees and moths are relative rarities in our garden nowadays. So, the sudden appearance of Comma butterfly was a moment to celebrate and record. With its characteristically scalloped trailing edges to its wings, it was quite definitely a Comma butterfly.

Such an opportunity; such a challenge, dare I hope it would stay long enough for me to lay my hands on a camera?

Remembering How Good Film Can Be = Cled Lewis
02nd August 2024 - 2 comments
Cled tells us a story about how the Leica M series met the objective laid down by the original designer of the Leica - Oscar Barnack.
'When loaded with a high quality film the camera would deliver high quality images'.
Cled's story also says that the range of Leica M lenses certainly in the last 25 years can also stand up well when combined with high quality, high resolution digital sensors.
The photos included obviously cannot be viewed at the levels that Cled's originals show.

Don Morley's Story About The Leica X Vario
26th July 2024 - 2 comments
Don's amusing and interesting article on how he realised the quality of the Leica X Vario once he had given it to his wife Jo is full of lessons about not under-estimating equipment and not rushing to upgrade at a considerable cost. The accompanying photographs are by Don and, of course, Jo.

Don is one of our dedicated members who provides articles for the website and the Fellowship Newsletter. We need more articles for both, particularly the Newsletter. Please put fingers to keyboards to provide articles or stories for other members.

Our Future Weekends - Costs and Commitments
19th July 2024 - 4 comments
Tony and Sally Tarlton are finding that costs of accommodation and function rooms is increasing substantially at all hotels and the cancellation terms are becoming less flexible and more onerous.

This general situation makes the Council think that we are all going to have to be prepared to pay more for our weekends and make binding commitments to our required rooms.

The result of this is not just that cost of the weekend will increase but if you’ve signed up and have to cancel you may well have to pay the whole cost of the weekend.

If you can’t come to Tiverton then please leave a comment about your views on this situation.

Don Morley's Enthusiasm for The Leica Q
19th April 2024 - 3 comments
Don Morley's enthusiasm for the Leica Q series can be understood in his article and in the photographs he has taken. We have more photographs that we will add to this site later.

Many many for me memorable pictures later, I am still very much of the view the Leica Q is one of the World's very best cameras and indeed I have since added a Q2 with its 47 rather than 24 mp sensor so if I have to I can crop my resulting images even more.
