In: Short Stories, News
Our weekend at Stanton House Hotel was our 50th Anniversary and more than 50% of our members made it for all or part of the weekend.
Gareth has provided a summary of the events below and took the group picture, well done.
Hopefully members will provide Gareth with more photographs and we will write an article for the Newsletter and put a few more photographs on the website.
It was a very successful weekend in a beautiful location and an area where there is lots to see and do.
We would like to thank our conference organisers for arranging this successful 'do'.

This week Tony Tarlton tells us the story of a very old Leica related lens owned by the renowned Leica specialist, Malcolm Taylor. This lens that dates from the early years of the 20th Century has produced A3 size prints showing excellent detail that you can't see on a web sized version and its colour rendering is good too.
As Malcolm is a member of the Leica Society this photo will also feature in an article on their site.

We're sure Cled didn't buy this Leica Q3 43 in the spirit of 'I've bought you this new fishing rod for Christmas, it's very special, I've wanted one for years'.

This week Keith Walker shows us a museum that will fascinate those of us interested in motor bikes but also tells us of the impressive individual after whom the museum is named - Sammy Miller. He was an incredibly successful rider in many trials and other competitions and is still alive at 90+ working in the museum!
Don Morley knows Sammy very well and has taken hundreds of photographs of him since the 1950s. Don has kindly sent a few photographs from his remaining stock so we can show you this accomplished racer adding to Keith's photographs of Sammy's museum. You'll find them after Keith's photographs

Occasionally, we receive a shock when our Leica cameras fail to operate. Usually it is something fairly simple that can be cured by temporarily removing and replacing the battery.
But what if that expedient fails to work; what next? That is the situation that David Askham found with his oldish Leica D-Lux, but it could apply to any relatively modern digital camera.
Find out how this unwelcome experience was resolved.

Alan Humphries has seen the following report in the Financial Times:
Recent reporting from Bloomberg suggests that Leica Camera AG could be heading toward one of the most significant moments in its modern history.
According to the report, the iconic German camera maker is in talks over the sale of its controlling stake, with potential buyers said to include Chinese private equity firm HSG (formerly known as Sequoia Capital China) and European investment group Altor Equity Partners.
The valuation being discussed is rumored to be around $1.2 billion / £878 million / AU$1.7 billion, a figure that would mark a dramatic shift for a brand long associated with independence, heritage and careful stewardship.
The following additional report was in Digital Camera World:

A CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL by David Askham 2025

I heard a cry, calling out for some seasonal pictures for posting before Christmas. Rather than trawling through my copious files for something from the past, I decided to support our local village by featuring festively decorated Christmas trees in our old parish church. So, armed with my trusty Leica CL, I sallied forth. Click the link to find out what I discovered.

Brian will be remembered for the way he educated and entertained us with his photography and his books. His last presentation the the Fellowship a few years ago is a happy memory.
